Across the Grain

STONEHAVEN features in the programme for this year’s Across The Grain festival, which is now available online.

Now in its third year, the festival celebrates the Doric language and the culture and traditional music of the north east.

An inspiring mix of activities, workshops and films will take place online on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4 – and much of the feast of Doric heritage is available to enjoy via your laptop or mobile..

For example, inspiring short videos highlighting the culture and living traditions of the north east of Scotland will be premiered via Youtube on the Saturday and viewed either by subscribing to the Livelife Aberdeenshire channel, or by watching on the website.

The videos were created by the Elphinstone Institute, and reflect the unique heritage of language, music, ballad and song, story, craft, history, and lore, which exists alongside the dynamic creativity of those who live and work here today.

Virtual Walk Around Stonehaven

Enjoy the beautiful outdoors on the Sunday, from the comfort of your favourite chair, as Doric spikker Alistair Lawrie – a member of Stonehaven and District Community Council – takes you on a virtual walk around bonnie Stonehaven.

Write on Wi Doric

And Alistair goes on to be joined by Jackie Ross and Professor Peter Reid in a conversation about the culture, heritage and writing of the north east. Their discussion will include Doric literature such as that included on the Doric Literature Portal as well as the place of the dialect in our everyday life and a whole host of other topics.
