"Fisherman's Friends arrives in Stonehaven"
By Dawn Black on 03/08/2021
If you were in the Market Square this afternoon (Tuesday 3rd Aug) you will have seen the arrival of the CLAN Light the North Lighthouse, organised by the Stonehaven Business Association/Stunning Stonehaven, sponsored by a collective of local businesses and individuals as well as receiving fund matching from the Kincardine & Mearns Area Committee Community Fund. It makes up part of the Lighthouse Trail due to launch next Mon, 9th Aug around the North East, Orkney and Shetland.
Designed and painted by Jane Mota and Glen Brooks of Studio Glen, "Fisherman's Friends" celebrates keepers and their lighthouses who are inextricably linked in a special symbiosis. These Fisherman's Friends light a safe passage with care and respon-sea-bility. Normally hidden behind the life saving lights, here we see the keepers in the forefront of the lighthouse, the master of the night light and the saviour of his seafarers. Glen and Jane dedicate this design to the whole CLAN of carers who act as a guiding light through difficult times for those in need.
Arduthie School pupils also received a mini lighthouse to paint and chose a Bee design. It can currently be seen in the Library window on Evan Street.

Another lighthouse, sponsored by Groundwater Trucks is due to be placed beside Duthie's Well later in the week.
The sculpture trail will draw people to explore Aberdeen city and shire, Moray and the northern isles to see over forty-five 2.5m tall lighthouses, which will be designed by some of the UK’s most talented artists. This event is made all the more special as the trail will be present in each of the areas that Clan Cancer Support operates. Since 1983, Clan has supported anyone affected by cancer, providing emotional and practical support to ensue that peoples well being needs are being taken care of at all states of the cancer journey.
At the end of trail, each of the lighthouse sculptures will be auctioned off and the funds raised will help Clan to support even more people affected by cancer.
